5-Year-Old Girl And Her Mom Killed In Inver Grove Heights Crash

Two other children in the same car survived the crash.

INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, MN — A 5-year-old girl and her mother were killed in a head-on crash in Inver Grove Heights Saturday. On Aug. 31 at about 7:30 a.m., Inver Grove Heights police, fire, and first responders were dispatched to 80th Street at Bowman Avenue.

At the scene, authorities found two vehicles with a total of six occupants. All six were transported to the hospital. All are from Inver Grove Heights.

Two of the victims — a 39-year-old woman and her 5-year-old daughter — later died. The other two children in that vehicle are being treated for their injuries.

The driver and passenger of the other vehicle were also treated for their injuries, according to a news release.

Deputy Police Chief Sean Folmar told the Star Tribune that the mother was driving east on 80th and crossed into the westbound lane and caused the crash.

The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting with reconstruction of the collision. "Our thoughts are with all those involved in this accident," police said in a statement.
