IGH Days: First Responders Show Their Skills

The fun and goodwill at Inver Grove Heights Days Sunday afternoon was interrupted by twisting metal, breaking glass and screaming sirens.

Luckily, the tragedy that unfolded was a planned affair.

In a display of timeliness, skill and expertise, the Inver Grove Heights fire department demonstrated its first response prowess with a fake head-on collision in front of the IGH Days crowd.

As the crews worked in real-time, senior firefighter Dan Bernardy explained their actions and the rationale behind them—check the picture captions for details. 

All told, extracting two "victims" from a head-on crash that included removing the roof of one vehicle took approximately 25 minutes.
