Local Woman Starts Club for Stay-at-Home Moms

Local stay-at-home moms are coming together to create community in a new club that’s just for them.

The was founded in April by Joni Shogren, a mother of four and a part-time estate planning attorney.

Shogren recently moved to Inver Grove Heights from Rosemount, where she was involved with a large and active MOMS Club. She hopes to foster a similar environment of support and friendship in Inver Grove Heights.

“It’s nice to be able to talk to another mom,” said Shogren. “We’re all in this together.”

The goal of the club is to build a supportive and understanding group where stay-at-home moms can socialize. The MOMS Club meets during the workday and children are welcome at all events. The club is open to all fulltime and part-time stay-at-home moms living in Inver Grove Heights or South St. Paul.

“It’s really difficult to just reach out and find new moms,” said club member and mother of two Megan Parsons. “This is just a great opportunity.”

MOMS Club activities include library programming, preschool open gym, zoo visits, picnics in the park and beach trips. In June, club members will be able to attend 26 different activities.

Currently, the club has six members, whose children range in age from infants to early teens. Shogren expects more moms to join over the summer and hopes to see membership eventually consist of 30-50 moms. The cost of an annual membership is $25.

MOMS Club is an international non-profit organization. Founded in 1983, there are currently over 21,000 chapters in the U.S. with over 100,000 members. Each chapter is required to complete one community service project per year, although Shogren expects the Inver Grove Heights chapter will complete more than one such project.
