Simley Girls Tennis Drops Close One to Central

First year head coach Jo Baecker was pleased at the tenacity of his doubles teams against Central.

The Simley High School girls tennis team lost a close match to St. Paul Central on Monday afternoon.

The match looked like it could get out of hand early when eighth-grader and top Spartan singles player, Annika Iverson, lost 0-6, 0-6 to Central's notable junior Helen Klass-Warch.

The Spartans' number-two singles player Taylor Short also lost 3-6, 1-6.

But first-year head coach Jo Baecker was encouraged by the play of his second and third doubles tandems—Paula Velasquez & Anne Hawe and Natasha Perkerwicz & Sam Pedelty, respectively—both of which recorded victories over the Minutemen.

Perkerwicz and Pedelty won the final two sets 6-4, 6-4 after losing the first set 0-6.
