Five Fun Things Your Kids Can Still Do This Summer in Shorewood

Safety camp, skateboarding camp, Zoomobile, Geocaching and a visit from the Humane Society.

South Lake Safety Camp: Wednesday, August 14, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; $20 for kids entering 3rd, 4th or 5th grade. Deadline to register is Aug. 2. Registration required.

Boys and girls will learn great safety skills from Excelsior Fire District, South Lake Police Department, Hennepin County Sheriff's Department, DNR, and more! The day includes snacks, lunch, safety instruction, free fitted bike helmet, a t-shirt, water bottle and more—all for only $20!

Skate Start Mini Shredder SkateStart Camp at South Shore Skate Park (5355 St. Albans Bay Road): July 15-18 from 9-11 a.m.; $89

Using the unique SkateStart skateboard (provided at the camp) you will learn how to push and roll the skateboard using proper technique and foot placement.  Each SkateStart skateboard using markings on the grip tape to indicate proper foot placement for pushing, rolling and ollying.

Please bring a helmet, sunscreen, water bottle, snack and appropriate dress.  

No open toed shoes or crocs. Sports Unlimited will provide the board (a SkateStart skateboard will be provided to use during class) and all pads. The four day camp is $89 and includes a T-shirt, water-bottle and award. Ages 4-10.  

Maximum number is 24, minimum is 8.  

Registration is required. 

Minnesota Zoomobile:July 26, 11 a.m., All ages. No registration is required.

They will bring a variety of animals. Plan your picnic before or after the show. The show runs about 45 minutes. 

Geocaching: Aug 2, 10 am-Noon, Ages 10-13

Learn the basics of (GPS) Global Positioning Technology then use the internet to find local geocaches! Hunt for hidden treasure and use our GPS units to play an updated version of Capture the Flag! Instruction by Three Rivers Park District.

NEW—Animal Humane Society, Understanding Pet Language: Aug. 9 from 11 a.m. to Noon, Grades 4-5

This program will teach kids about the many ways that animals communicate their needs and emotions. Kids will use their observational skills to interpret the pet's body lanuage and vocalizations.
