Former Medina Mayor, Pillsbury Heir Tom Crosby Succumbs to Pancreatic Cancer

A family statement said lifelong area resident died around 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Tom Crosby, the former mayor of Medina and a lifelong area resident, died over the weekend after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Crosby announced last month that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and would be stepping down as mayor to begin chemotherapy treatment.

Tom Crosby, 74, is the third Pillsbury family member to die in 18 months. His mother, Ella Sturgis Pillsbury Crosby, died in January of 2012 at the age of 96, and her 91-year-old brother George Pillsbury died in October of last year.

His family posted the following message on a Caring Bridge page over the weekend:

Dear friends and family,

After a three month fight with pancreatic cancer, we are sad to report that Dad passed away today at 3 pm. His passing was very peaceful with all of us at his side.  Since the last Caringbridge update two weeks ago Dad enjoyed one very good week during which he felt as good as his pre-cancer self. Then starting last Tuesday, he started to get sick from a recurring infection that accelerated at an alarming pace. As recent as yesterday afternoon he was alert and very involved in the exceptional treatment he received at Abbott Northwestern Hospital.

We have not made plans for a service as of yet.  We will update this Caringbridge site as soon as more information is available.

The support from all of you to Dad and our family over the last three months is truly amazing and very appreciated.

Ellie, Stewart, Brewster, Grant and Brooke
