Recent Wayzata P.D. Calls: Home Burglary, Online Scams and an Alias

Below are a selection of notable incidents responded to by the Wayzata Police Department between Feb. 26 and Feb. 28. Not intended to be a comprehensive log of activity.

Feb. 28

A resident on Edgewood Lane reported a forced-entry residential burglary of an unoccupied home Feb. 28. Click here to read more about the incident. A loss estimate is not available at this time, and the incident remains under investigation.

Police assisted a 23-year-old female from Minneapolis with a car lock out on the 200 block of Lake Street Feb. 26. It was later discovered the female deliberately misspelled her name and drove away from the scene with a suspended driver's license. The case is pending formal complaint.

Feb. 26

A resident on Lakeview Avenue in Long Lake called police to report she received telephone call where caller told her she had won 3rd place in a lottery and all she needed to do was prepare and send money toward the taxes. Resident hung up on caller. 

A resident on Harrington Drive in Long Lake received a telephone call from person claiming to be his grandson. This person explained he had a cold and that was why his voice was different than usual. He also indicated he needed money because he was being arrested for a drug charge and needed bail money. Resident realized call was a scam and hung up, and later confirmed grandson was OK and in school.

Resident sold cosmetic products over Internet and received order from customer—who sent too much money on a check and asked to be returned the overage. Resident knew it was a scam.
