Today: Meet Local Army General Turned Author in Wayzata

Members of the community have a chance to meet an Army general turned author this morning at Sunsets in Wayzata.

Major General Robert Shadley's book "The GAMe: Unraveling a Military Sex Scandal," is a tell all book about sexual assault in the U.S. military. Today is the official release of the book, and General Shadley will be available for a chat and signing from 7:30-9:30 a.m.

Today's book release event will be the first of three scheduled appearances this month in the Wayzata area.

• Book Release Event: Friday, April 12 from 7:30-9:30 a.m. at Sunsets in Wayzata
• Wayzata Prayer Breakfast: General Shadley will be the featured speaker Friday, April 26, at 7 a.m. at the Wayzata Country Club
• Book Signing: Saturday, April 27, from 2-3 p.m. at The Bookcase in Wayzata

General Shadley spent more than three decades in the U.S. Army. He was instrumental in establishing the base at Guantanamo Bay, was J4 of the Atlantic Command during the mid-1990s and spent six years mentoring army units headed for combat in Iraq and Afghanistan.

General Shadley also spearheaded a 1996 investigation that eventually led to the discovery of a sexual exploitation network against female trainees. In his new book, Shadley gives a detailed report on both the 1996 case at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds and the military's continuing failures to combat sexual assault among the ranks.

"Hopefully this story will help to finally correct a problem that was never adequately addressed and has therefore continued," Shadley said.
