Wayzata Track Wins 2013 True Team State Championship
The Trojans amassed 830 points to beat out the host school Stillwater by 23 points and Lake Conference rival Hopkins who scored 736.5 on the evening.

The Wayzata boys track & field team used top individual finishes in addition to solid overall team balance to win their True Team State Championship in school history this past Friday, May 17, in Stillwater.

The team won a number of events including all four of the nights relays. Starting off the winning ways was the 4X800 relay team of Aaron Bryer (11) Kevin Myers (11), Manny Santana (12) and Derek Peterson (12); the 4X200 team of Mitch Sanchez (10), Joey Kolpin (11), Steele Berg (11), and James Smith (11).
Next up was the 4X100 with Keante Johnson (11), Anthony Clarke (10), Chris Pierson (12), and Jeff Borchardt (12).

Winning the final event of the night, book ending the meet with event victories, was the 4X400 team of Tyler Didier (9), James Smith (11), Obi Wamup (11), and Chris Pierson (12). Junior Michael Smith won both the 400-meter (48.43) and the 200-meter (22.22) in addition to forth place in the 100.
Sophomore Connor Olson competed in a star studded field in the 1600 and 3200 placing third in the 1600 (4:18.70) and second in the 3200 (9:14.38).

The Trojans are off until the Minnesota Section 6AA Track and Field Meet May 28 and May 30 at Cooper High School as they begin to defend their 2012 Minnesota State High School League Championship.
