Historic Pillsbury Mansion Could Be Demolished Soon
The iconic Lake Minnetonka home was built in 1918.

ORONO, MN — The historic Pillsbury Estate on Lake Minnetonka, completed in 1918, could soon be no more than dust and rubble. The west metro city of Orono granted a permit to demolish the iconic Lake Minnetonka mansion this month.
It's been on the market for more than a decade. View photos of the mansion here.
The Pillsbury family owned the grain producing-giant Pillsbury Company in Minneapolis. Patch profiled the Pillsbury home back in January. At that time, it was on sale for $7,900,000.

In 2007, it was on sale for more than $52 million, KSTP reports.
The home isn't on the list of National Register of Historic Places, and doesn't have protected status. Orono city officials could find no legal grounds to deny the demolition permit.

"It could be tomorrow," Orono Mayor Denny Walsh told the Star Tribune. "It’s unfortunate, no question about it."
It's not yet clear what the current owners have planned for the land.
