'13 Reasons Why' Author Coming To Mendota Heights
The author of controversial novel "Thirteen Reasons Why," the book that is the basis for the Netflix series, is coming to the Twin Cities.
MENDOTA HEIGHTS, MN — The author of controversial novel “Thirteen Reasons Why,” the book that is the basis for the Netflix series, is coming to the Twin Cities. Author Jay Asher will present at Henry Sibley High School (1897 Delaware Ave Mendota Heights, MN 55118) May 6 for Teen Lit Con 2017.
The event is geared toward teenagers and several young adult authors will be presenting. Teen Lit Co is free and open to the public. Learn more about the event here.

The new Netflix series has sounded alarms among mental health professionals and school administrators nationwide. "13 Reasons Why," based on a 2007 book by Jay Asher, details the story of how a classmate uses 13 tapes left behind following a teenage girl's suicide to figure out the her reasons for committing suicide.
Following the release of the show, school officials in the Twin Cities and across the nation have been warning parents of the show. With suicide being the third-leading cause of death among ages 10 to 24, many mental health experts are concerned with the show's content. Those outside the expert community have also raised concerns about the show.
