seniors Chance Brost, Tyler Green and James Gunderson from Troop 171 in Eagan have received the Boy Scouts of America’s highest advancement rank of Eagle Scout. The three were honored together on January 14 in a joint Eagle Court of Honor ceremony held at Peace Reformed Church in Eagan, which is Troop 171’s charter partner.
Only about five percent of Boy Scouts go on to earn the Eagle Scout rank. There are many requirements to be met in order to become an Eagle Scout, including planning and leading a significant community service project.
For their community service projects, Brost created a bird sanctuary at Garlough Environmental Magnet School, Green completed painting and restoration work for the Fellowship Hall and Pastor’s office at River Hills Church in Burnsville, and Gunderson built a playground at Peace Reformed Church.

Brost, Green, and Gunderson have traveled through the ranks of scouting together since they were in elementary school. Green and Gunderson joined Cub Scouts in Pack 622 at Pilot Knob Elementary when they were in first grade, and Brost joined the pack when he was in second grade. The three also received Cub Scouting’s highest award, the Arrow of Light, in February 2005. They then joined Boy Scout Troop 171 and worked for seven additional years to receive their Eagle award.
“All three boys have completed significant achievements in the areas of community service, citizenship, environment, fitness, communication, and leadership to name a few,” said Carolyn Solheim, Committee Chair of Troop 171. “These young men are now prepared for a bright future when they graduate from Henry Sibley High School in June.”
