Mom Threw Her Son, 11, Off Apartment Building Balcony: Police
St. Paul officers initially responded to the scene for a report of an attempted suicide.

ST. PAUL, MN — Authorities say an 11-year-old boy was thrown off the balcony of an apartment building in St. Paul Monday by his mother. Officers responded to the scene at the 700 block of Hampden Avenue at around 8:40 a.m. for an initial report of an attempted suicide.
When they arrived, policed found the boy lying on the ground. He was conscious and breathing but had "obvious injuries consistent with falling," according to authorities.
"Unfortunately, he was not able to tell officers how he wound up on the ground, outside of his apartment," St. Paul police spokesperson Steve Linders told Patch in an email.

St. Paul Fire medics transported the boy to Regions Hospital, where he is being treated for several broken bones.
"Thankfully, he’s expected to survive," Linders said.

Investigators at the scene determined that the boy was thrown off the balcony by his 33-year-old mother, authorities said. She was arrested Monday on suspicion of assault and malicious punishment of a child, according to Linders.
