Construction Near MSP Airport: Ramp, Lane Closures Begin In March
The $26 million project will stretch into the fall of 2020.
TWIN CITIES, MN — Motorists who drive near the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport should prepare for several ramp and lane closures this month due to the Highway 5 repair and resurfacing project. The project will stretch into fall 2020.

Ramp closures
March 23 through March 28 — 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly

- Ramp from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Terminal 1 to WB Highway 5 is closed
Late March/early April — 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly
- Ramp from NB Highway 77 to EB Highway 62 is closed for up to 5 nights
- Ramp from EB Highway 62 to WB Highway 5 is closed for one night
Lane closures
Late March/early April; 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly

- EB Highway 62 is reduced to a single lane between Bloomington Ave. and 28th Ave. for up to 5 nights
Road closures
April through August
- EB Highway 5 is closed between I-494 and the Mississippi River
- Detour to airport: NB Highway 77 to EB Highway 62 to WB Highway 5
- Detour to St. Paul: NB Highway 77 to EB Highway 62 to EB Highway 5
August through October
- WB Highway 5 is closed between the Mississippi River and I-494
- Detour to airport: WB Highway 62 to SB Highway 77 to EB Highway 5
- Detour to westbound Highway 5/I-494: WB Highway 62 to SB Highway 77 to WB I-494
According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the $26 million project will resurface Highway 5, repair ramps to and from Highway 62 and I-494, and repair bridges in the area.
