Get Out ... and Explore the Mendota Heights Area May 6-8

There's plenty of celebration in store for this weekend.

When/Where: Rain or shine, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, May 6 and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday May 7 / Heritage Middle School, 121 Butler Ave, West St. Paul

Why Go: Proceeds from this sprawling rummage sale gives a crescendo to the band program. On Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., drop off donations for the sale at the band trailer by the tennis courts, then return on Friday or Saturday (or both!) to do some serious bargain hunting.

Pricing: Free to attend, but which gems you discover is up to you. A bag sale will likely round out the final hours on Saturday.

When/Where: 1-4 p.m. Saturday, May 7/Caponi Art Park and Learning Center 1220 Diffley Road, Eagan

Why Go: It's the 90th birthday celebration of Caponi Art Park's founder, Anthony Caponi. Celebrate with Italian games, art projects and exploration of the center.

Pricing: Free, donations welcome. RSVP by emailing rsvp@caponiartpark.org.

When/Where: 4 p.m. Friday, May 4-9 p.m. Saturday, May 5/Cesar Chavez Street (Concord Street north of Hwy. 52)

Why Go: Celebrate a festival of Mexican culture. Catch the parade 10 a.m. to noon. It starts at Plato and Wabasha (Holiday Station) and end at Ada and Cesar Chavez (Cozy Cantina)

4.) Mother's Day Brunch

When/Where: 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Mendoberri; 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Axel's

Why Go: Whether you flip pancakes at home, or try out one of the spreads being offered by local restaurants including Mendoberri and Axel's, start planning now (if you haven't already) to serve up some love for Mom. Axel's is also offering horse and buggy rides for dinner reservation guests. Call your favorite restaurant to see if anything special will be offered, and be sure to make a reservation.

Pricing: Mendoberri $25 adult/$10 children; Axel's: $27.95 adult/$11.95 children over age 5

When/Where: 7 p.m. Friday; Lebanon Hills Park, Eagan

Why Go: A series of activities including games and snacks led by a trained naturalist will reveal what nature has in store for us as flowers begin to bloom.

Pricing: Free. Reservation required; spots still open for this and other Lebanon Hills events.
