Kotex Tampon Recall In MN: Products Unravel In Body

Kimberly-Clark is voluntarily recalling its U by Kotex Sleek Tampons, regular absorbency, after some products unraveled inside the body.

MINNESOTA — Heads up Minnesota — Kimberly-Clark is voluntarily recalling a tampon product after people reported they were unraveling or coming apart inside the body, sometimes resulting in infection or injury. The recall, announced Wednesday, applies to its U by Kotex Sleek Tampons, regular absorbency. The products were sold nationwide and in Canada.

The items were made between Oct. 7, 2016, and Oct. 16, 2018, the company said in a release. They were distributed between Oct. 17, 2016, and Oct. 23, 2018. To see if your products were recalled, you’ll have to look at the specific lot numbers found on the bottom of the package. A full list of those numbers is available on the product’s website.

“Retailers have been alerted to remove the recalled lot numbers from shelves and post a notification in their stores,” the company said. No other Kotex products were recalled.

The company said some people had to seek medical attention after parts were left inside the body during removal.

“There also have been a small number of reports of infections, vaginal irritation, localized vaginal injury, and other symptoms,” the notice said.
