Local Scouts recognize MHFD as Hometown Heroes
Local Troop 248 and Pack 37 raised over $1,000 in popcorn donations to recognize the Mendota Heights Fire Department as our Hometown Heroes.
Boy Scout Troop 248 and Cub Scout Pack 37 selected Mendota Heights Fire Department as their Hometown Hero during meetings in August, 2016. During the popcorn selling season, which began September 23rd and ended October 30th, the scouts asked community members to donate popcorn to the cause and to support their Hometown Heroes. Scouts worked a total of 91 2-hour shifts at Oxendales, during which they received $880 in donations. With individual scouts asking for donations door-to-door, the scouts raised over $1,000 to buy popcorn for their local heroes.
The popcorn was presented to the firefighters during their regular meeting held on December 21st at the firehouse. Fire Chief, John Maczko, accepted the popcorn with a gesture to bowls of popcorn set out on tables for the meeting, "We definitely use it!"
The popcorn sale was part of the Northern Star Council fall fundraise r in conjunction with Trailsend Popcorn. Boy Scout Troop 248 and Cub Scout Pack 37 are sponsored in West St Paul at St Stephen's Lutheran Church. Information on Pack 37 can be found here. Information on Troop 248 can be found here.
