Head Coach Corey Prondzinski says 'mental toughness' made the difference.

The boys tennis team broke from the pack this year, winning the Classic Suburban Conference. The were seeded third in the section out of 16 teams. In addition to the team's standout junior and senior players, five freshman are also contributing to the team's success, and gaining experience for future seasons.

Prondzinski: We have won an incredible number of close matches considering how inexperienced we are.

Patch: What has made the difference?

Prondzinski: Mental toughness. We have beaten many teams that have more talent than we do, but my kids come through.

Patch: Who are your standout athletes?

Prondzinski: Matt Schull-12th grade; Danny Axelrod-11th grade

Patch: How would you describe the team atmosphere?

Prondzinski: We have a family atmosphere. Everybody is very close. We are able to push each other, but understand its all for the good of the team. No one is selfish. It takes a special group of kids to understand that.

Patch: What’s your goal for the season?

Prondzinski: Our goal was to win the conference and the section and go to state. We won the conference, but came up short in sections. We finished 17-3.

Patch: Any parting thoughts?

Prondzinski: All in all, a great season.
