HENNEPIN COUNTY, MN — Hennepin EMS will soon retire its brown uniforms and replace them with updated navy blue garb in an effort to better differentiate paramedics from sheriff's deputies and state patrol officers, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Hennepin Healthcare spokesperson Mike Trullinger told the publication the change was requested because some paramedics "didn't feel safe being perceived as law enforcement at a scene" during protests.

The navy uniforms will also include four neon stripes and the words "Hennepin EMS Paramedic" on the back.
