Minneapolis Among Best U.S. Cities: 2021 Niche Ranking

Minneapolis was ranked among the 10 best cities in America for young professionals.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Minneapolis claimed one of the top spots in Niche's 2021 Best Cities to Live in America rankings.

Niche's rankings were made using city data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the FBI, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other sources.

According to Niche, Minneapolis is the eighth best city in the country for young professionals. The city ranked No. 21 among all the nation's cities.

Minneapolis received an overall grade of A+, according to the study. Among the city’s best offerings are its nightlife, diversity, commute, outdoor activities and health and fitness.

Crime and safety and weather, respectively, scored a C and C+.

"In Minneapolis there are a lot of bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and parks," the study's findings read. :Many families and young professionals live in Minneapolis and residents tend to be liberal. The public schools in Minneapolis are above average."

The city's top five public schools are:

  • Yinghua Academy — Grade: A
  • Southwest Senior High School — Grade: A-
  • Washburn Senior High School — Grade: A-
  • Southwest Senior High — Grade: A-
  • Burroughs Elementary School — Grade: A-

The city's top five private schools are:

  • Minnehaha Academy — Grade A+
  • DeLaSalle High School — Grade A+
  • Our Lady of Peace Catholic School — Grade A+
  • Hope Academy Minneapolis — Grade B+
  • Cristo Rey Jesuit High School Twin Cities — Grade B

Minneapolis's top five neighborhoods are:

  • Linden Hills — Grade A+
  • Lowry Hill — Grade A+
  • Fulton — Grade A+
  • King Field — Grade A+
  • Downtown West — Grade A+

The rankings consider a variety of topics to determine a town or city's standing, including affordability, local housing market, neighborhood diversity, local public schools and walkability, to name a few.

Nationally, Niche's research found that Chesterbrook, PA, was the best place to live in America, while The Woodlands, TX, earned top honors in the Best Cities to Live in America rankings.
