Minnesota Weather: Christmas Day Could Be Messy

Christmas Day could see a mix of rain, snow, freezing rain, and sleet.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Christmas Day could see a mix of rain, snow, freezing rain, and sleet. Sunday's storm track is shifting to the west, which means warmer temperatures and less snow.

Most locations in the Twin Cities will see a light wintry mix Sunday morning, but then changing over to all rain, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

So far this year, the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Airport is just 0.9 inches behind 1911 for having the title of wettest year on record, according to NWS. It's looking like the storm system impacting the area on Christmas will determine whether or not 2016 passes 1911.
