Minnesota Weather: Snow, Colder Temps after New Year

A strong system will bring a chance for snow and much colder temperatures to Minnesota and Wisconsin after New Year's Eve.

Expect scattered snow showers in the Twin Cities Thursday, especially north of Interstate 94. Strong northwest winds of 30 to 40 mph will develop, possibly as high as 50 mph along the Minnesota River Valley.

A storm system is shaping up for early next week, according to the National Weather Service. Although there is uncertainty on the track, a plowable snowfall is looking more likely. Colder temperatures will build in by the end of next week, with wind chill values nearing advisory criteria by Thursday.
