Northwestern Player Found Dead, Gophers Women's Basketball Game Canceled

A Gophers women's basketball game has been canceled after Northwestern University player Jordan Hankins was found dead.

A Gophers women's basketball game scheduled for Wednesday has been canceled after a Northwestern University player was found dead. Northwestern University said it learned Monday of the death of women's basketball sophomore student-athlete Jordan Hankins.

Hankins was 19 years old.

"We are heartbroken and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jordan Hankins," Northwestern Vice President for Athletics and Recreation Jim Phillips said in a statement. "Our love and thoughts are with her family, teammates and friends. Jordan made a dramatic impact on our Wildcats community. Our department is solely focused on supporting those who adored her."

Phillips said the school will work with the Big Ten and the University of Minnesota regarding a makeup date.

"Jordan was a remarkably dynamic young woman," said women's basketball coach Joe McKeown. "This is a devastating loss for our basketball family. She brought an unwavering intensity and commitment to everything in her life. We will miss her enormously."
