Hennepin County has paused its plans to relocate Southdale Library from the current 8-acre parcel on York Avenue in Edina. In June 2019, the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners authorized county staff to negotiate a long-term lease agreement with developers at Southdale Center, with the intent to begin construction of new library space in 2020. In late October, county administration announced they are no longer pursing lease agreements for the Southdale project, citing economic conditions and the evolving response to COVID-19.
