Thoughts on the State of the GOP and Repercussions of Impeachment

The need for a healthy GOP

With the acquittal imminent I am once again disheartened and disappointed with the state of our country. Despite my consistent criticism of the former President, I am not, as I have been accused, a bleeding heart liberal socialist. I have voted Republican on occasion. I have conservative values on certain issues. But over the last four years the GOP has increasingly embraced a position of false and misleading facts. An alternate reality championed, and in many ways created, by the former President. Even worse they've taken this road for purely political reasons. Similar to Marjorie Taylor Greene quickly backtracking on her conspiracy theories when her position on Senate committees was threatened, the GOP knows much of what they claim is not true. They know that not only is there no evidence of wide spread voter fraud, there is actual evidence the election was secure and accurate. But they push these falsehoods because it plays to their crowd. It's what they want to hear. They share this alternate reality on social media and believe they are the smart, informed ones.

There is a bright side. I remind myself that despite the large and deep support of this fake reality there are even more Americans who see through it. There are conservatives who stand behind their traditional convictions but know the current GOP's direction does not represent them.

I know there are those who will continue to draw a line. To push the false information and draw false equivalencies. To insist that democratic leaders instigated and supported the violence and destruction that took place during the summer protest. That this violence and destruction somehow justifies, or at least excuses, an insurrection.

But there is hope. The more the GOP push their false and misleading narrative the more people will see through it. The more conservatives will push back.

I believe a strong healthy conservative party based on facts and conservative values is a cornerstone of this country. It's imperative Republican leaders who represent these values and conservatives who live these values take back control of their party.
