What To Expect In Minneapolis Institute Of Art's Reopening
Face mask requirements, timed admission and social distancing will be the norm at MIA for now.
MINNEAPOLIS — The Minneapolis Institute of Art reopened last week, but not everything is as it was before.
Between a face mask requirement, social distancing requirements and timed admission in place, here's what visitors should know before heading to the Mia.
In a news release, the art museum announced admission will continue to be free, but visitors must first make reservations and will be admitted during certain time slots. The museum will be open Thursday from Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The museum also offers special admission on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon for older adults and individuals at higher risk of complications from COVID-19.

Safety Precautions
The museum announced it will require face masks for all visitors and staff older than the age of 2. The release stated the museum will also monitor its public spaces to facilitate social distancing requirements and has installed signage reminding people to keep six feet of distance between themselves and others.
To aid social distancing measures, parts of the Mia have been rethought so that visitors can move through them in a one-way pattern, and some stairs and elevators have been restricted to one-way movements.
Ongoing Closures
The Mia announced the Purcell-Cutts house remains closed to the public. The museum has also put a stop to group tours "until further notice," the release stated.
The museum's coat check also remains closed to the public, and audio tour devices are not currently available to rent. Further, luggage and other large items are not permitted in the museum.
The museum said while its Agra Culture Cafe is open during museum hours, The Mezzanine restaurant is closed until further notice.
Safety Steps
The Mia said it's working to keep visitors safe and healthy through other sanitization and custodial practices as well.
The release stated museum staff will regularly disinfect door handles, elevator buttons, vending machines, push plates, stair rails, restroom fixtures, countertops, faucet handles and water fountains.
