Jeweler Beth Farber, Minnetonka, To Exhibit @ American Fine Craft Show @ Brooklyn Museum Nov. 19-20
Local jeweler joins 25 from around the US—90 exhibitors in all—at Brooklyn Museum's landmark Beaux-Arts Court--in time for holiday shopping
Beth Farber, Elizabeth Farber Designs, Minnetonka, joins 25 other jewelers--90 artisans and artists in all--at the fourth American Fine Craft Show at Brooklyn Museum November 19-20. The jewelry at the show features spirited, passionate colors and much of the work is influenced by travel, historic references, nature and careers in far-flung industries.
The show is produced and curated by An American Craftsman Galleries that has supported crafts artists since 1982, longer than any other gallery in New York City, representing the work of over 500 from across the country.
On her website Farber wrote: “I create unique works of art that are soft and sensuous, whose movement and texture seduce the wearer. Once put on, each piece appears to come alive, moving with a woman’s body, adapting to her kinetic energy.

“My work combines the ancient with the contemporary. Adapting ancient bead weaving techniques, I hand-weave fine gemstones, silver, and gold, with a contemporary sensibility and edge. Each piece is unique and intensely personal—often taking over one hundred hours to create.
“My art explores the connection between hard and soft. While pieces are at once hard—made of stones and metal—their ultimate effect is soft, like a piece of woven fabric that is draped over a woman’s wrist, or around her neck.

“The designs of these tapestries of precious metals and gemstones are evocative of exotic lands. Drawing inspiration from my international experience, they are all imbued with the colors and visual flavors of the countries and cultures that I have known.”
The craft show is timed for holiday shopping but not too close to Hanukah and Christmas giving visitors the treat of taking in the magnificent current and long-term exhibitions at the Museum. Concurrent special exhibitions at Brooklyn Museum include “Marilyn Minter: Pretty/Dirty;” “Beverly Buchanan—Ruins and Rituals;” “Iggy Pop Life Class by Jeremy Deller” and a ticketed exhibition, “Who Shot Sports: A Photographic History, 1843 to the Present,” $16 at the admissions desk.
