Minnetonka Girls’ Tennis Takes Second in State Team Tournament

The Skippers also have players in the singles and doubles tournament.

Minnetonka’s girls’ tennis team is second in the state following a 5-2 loss to Edina in the state tournament final Wednesday.

The Skippers went into the Class AA tournament ranked No. 2. They beat Mounds View 5-2 then edged out No. 3 Prior Lake 4-3.

In singles play of the team tournament’s final round, Minnetonka’s Isabella Lambert won her sets 6-4, 6-3. In doubles play, Brianna Smith and Theresa Tebon won 7-5, 6-3.

Lambert is also seeded third in the singles tournament. She defeated Lakeville North’s Lori Ahuja 6-0, 6-0 Thursday morning in the first round and then beat St. Cloud Tech’s Taylor Tarrolly at noon 6-2, 6-2. She’ll play in the semifinals at 8 a.m. Friday against Edina's Caitlyn Merzbacher, the No. 2 seed.

Brianna Smith and Theresa Tebon are representing the Skippers in the doubles tournament. They defeated Coon Rapids’ Emily Bauer and Heidi Hannula 6-0, 6-2 Thursday morning. They're in the process of playing against Forest Lake's Taylor Shortly and Chase Shortly.
