From the city of Minnetonka:
Minnetonka Police Officers Scott Marks, Sy Vanthavong and Matt Vellance traveled to Moore, OK, in late May to assist in cleanup and delivering donations after a tornado hit the area May 20.
“What we saw there was completely amazing," said Officer Marks. "There were several large neighborhoods that were completely destroyed, one of which included two elementary schools. Across the street from Plaza Towers Elementary I ran into an Oklahoma County Deputy who lost everything, except for his truck and his dog. His story is amazing, and he truly is a hero. We helped him finish clearing his property of debris. Citizens of the area were still in shock and had some serious psychological trauma to deal with on top of trying to cope with the massive amount of cleanup. Through it all, the people there were extremely nice and welcoming of volunteers.”
Officer Marks plans to return for a second trip in mid-June, along with other volunteers who will assist with ongoing cleanup.
