Minnetonka School Supervisor Meets With Legislators in D.C.

Minnetonka ISD Nutrition Services Supervisor Jane Bender represented Minnesota School Nutrition Association (MSNA) when she joined forces with hundreds of school nutrition advocates from around country last week at the School Nutrition Association's (SNA) 47th Legislative Action Conference (LAC) in Washington, D.C.

Bender, along with about 30 MSNA members, were there to advocate for national policy efforts supporting school nutrition programs and meet directly with local legislators. As part of LAC, school meal program operators were able to meet with Members of Congress and their legislative aides to discuss SNA's 2019 Position Paper and the important correlation between school meals to student achievement.

SNA's Position Paper recognizes efforts by Congress and the Administration to address operational challenges for school meal programs. SNA supported USDA's final rule on school meal flexibilities for providing commonsense flexibility under whole grain and sodium rules, while maintaining strong nutrition standards to benefit students. The Legislative Action Conference took place in Washington, D.C. from February 24-26, 2019 at the Marriott Marquis on Washington, D.C.
