Minnetonka Welcomes Officers, Salutes K9

The Minnetonka Police Department recently welcomed two new officers, a newly promoted sergeant and honored his K9 partner.

The Minnetonka Police Department recently welcomed two new officers, a newly promoted sergeant and honored his K9 partner. The virtual swearing-in ceremony was held at Minnetonka City Hall.

Tim Olson, seen on the left, has served with the department in various capacities since 2003. He has been promoted to the rank of sergeant. Roberto Hernandez is one of two new Minnetonka officers. He became a police officer in 2017 and previously served with the Minneapolis Police Department. James Van Hercke, seen on the right, first became active with the department as a police explorer while attending Minnetonka High School. He has most recently served served as a community service office (CSO) and is now a full-time Minnetonka officer.

K9 Kato responded to more than 500 K9 assists during her time with the department and had more than 1100 hours of training. Her well-deserved retirement was necessitated by Sgt. Olson's promotion.
