Former Gopher, Wayzata Swim Coach Wins Bronze Medal in 100 Meter Backstroke
Former Gopher David Plummer, who coaches the Wayzata High School swim team, won a bronze medal at the games in Rio Monday night.
Former Minnesota Golden Gophers swimmer and current Wayzata High School swim coach David Plummer won a bronze medal in the 100 meter backstroke at the Rio Olympics Monday night.
Plummer, 30, earned the bronze with 52.40 seconds, and became the oldest person to medal in the event. Fellow American Ryan Murphy won the gold in the 100 meter backstroke with 51.97 seconds, a new Olympic record.

Plummer, a native of Oklahoma City, came to the University of Minnesota in 2005. He was a 14-time NCAA All-American and eight-time individual NCAA finalist before graduating in 2008.
