16-Year-Old Girl Shot In The Legs In Minnesota Hunting Accident

The teen was with a group hunting for small game when she was shot, authorities said.

BROWN COUNTY, MN — Authorities are reminding Minnesotans about hunting safety after a 16-year-old girl was shot in Morgan, Minnesota Monday. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office says Nadia Meyers was hunting for small game when another member of the same hunting party shot at a rabbit and struck her in the back of the legs.

Meyers was hit with birdshot from 91-feet away, investigators said. She was transported to the Sleepy Eye Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The Brown County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources are investigating the incident.

The sheriff's office provided the following hunting tips below:

  • Treat every firearm as if it were loaded
  • Only point at what you plan to shoot.
  • Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
  • Before shooting, clearly identify your target and what is beyond the target.
