9-Year-Old Drives Car Into YMCA Building In Mankato

An adult who was with the child during the crash was hospitalized, police said.

MANKATO, MN — Charges are being considered after a 9-year-old drove a car into a YMCA building in Mankato. Just after 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, public safety was dispatched to 161 Jaycee Court for a crash.

Authorities say the child accidentally accelerated the car and hit the building.

There was a male passenger in the vehicle at the time of the crash, police said. The child's mother was also at the scene, according to investigators.

The man was taken to a local hospital with a minor injury. The child was checked at the scene for possible injuries, according to a news release.

Charges of child endangerment against the adults are being requested, police said.
