Edward Alan Hunter, 66

Edward Alan Hunter was born April 7, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, to Edward I. and Valerie (Furkul) Hunter.  As a boy he moved with his family to the suburb of Elmhurst.  At the age of 17, he left high school and joined the US Army.  He spent time stationed in Germany, and following his honorable discharge, returned to Elmhurst.  He married Dorothy Bell on June 14, 1969, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elmhurst.  After marriage the lived in Villa Park and Ed worked for Caterpillar Company as a mechanic, later becoming a shop foreman.  In 1979, Ed and Dottie divorced and he moved to Utah where he worked as a welder and mechanic.  In 2000, Ed and Dottie rekindled their relationship and on March 27, 2001, they were married in Las Vegas.  After marriage they lived in the Burnsville/Eagan area.  In 2004, they moved to Tampa, Florida, then moving to Northfield in 2006.  Ed was a member of the Northfield American Legion.  He was a puzzle fanatic.  He was easy going, had a good sense of humor, and his skills as a mechanic allowed him to fix almost anything.

Survivors include his wife, Dottie; 2 sons: Ian and wife Kate of Lakeville, Ed and with Trina of Hanover; 3 grandchildren: Adam, Taelor and Kaela; his sister, Gloria Leonard of Salt Lake City;  his nephew, Banning Leonard of Salt Lake City; his sisters-in-law: Kim Roth (Mike) of Northfield, Dayna Bell (David Johnson) of Northfield; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his infant son Clinton Alan, his parents, his twin brother Jon in December 2011, and his nephew Brendon Leonard.

Ed passed away with his wife and family by his side on Monday morning, January 7, 2013, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, at the age of 66.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, January 10, 2013, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Franklin officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior.  Interment with military honors will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
