Are Gas Prices Up In Northfield?

AAA forecasts a nationwide surge in gas prices following the shutdown of the Colonial Pipeline.

NORTHFIELD, MN — The American Automobile Association company (AAA) says gas prices will continue to climb this week in reaction to the cyber attack that caused a temporary shutdown of the Colonial Pipeline. The pipeline is responsible for about 45 percent of all fuel delivered to the East Coast, according to AAA.

The good news for Minnesota is that prices here are less likely to be impacted than the states in the south and on the east coast.

As of Wednesday, the national gas price average is just over $3 a gallon. The last time that average prices were at $2.99 a gallon and higher was in 2014.

Average gas is at $2.79 a gallon in Minnesota as of Wednesday. It's even higher in Rice County, sitting at $2.82 a gallon, according to AAA.

"This shutdown will have implications on both gasoline supply and prices, but the impact will vary regionally. Areas including Mississippi, Tennessee and the east coast from Georgia into Delaware are most likely to experience limited fuel availability and price increases, as early as this week," Jeanette McGee, AAA spokesperson, said in a statement.
