Division Street In Northfield Will Remain Closed For Weekend

Division Street between Second and Third streets will remain closed throughout the weekend for the public’s safety. The Archer House structure is unstable following the fire so both vehicle and pedestrian travel will be restricted in that area until a complete assessment can be performed.

“While we understand everyone’s curiosity and worry about the historical building, we appreciate the community’s support in keeping this are clear while crews continue to work and assess the situation,” said Mark Elliott, Northfield’s police chief. “If you do come downtown, please remain at a safe distance. If the building were to collapse, debris could spread and we don’t want anyone in harm’s way. Stay away from the block both on the street side and river side.”

Northfield Area Fire and Rescue Service and several other surrounding fire departments were called to the scene Thursday afternoon and battled the fire throughout the night and well into Friday afternoon. No serious injuries were reported.
