The Northfield Arts Guild presents "Artists Disabling Assumptions," a retrospective investigating the 25th Anniversary of the ADA.

The Northfield Arts Guild presents “Artists Disabling Assumptions,” a retrospective celebrating and investigating the 25th Anniversary of the enactment of the Americans with Disabilities Act. This event will feature artists with disabilities in all of its gallery spaces, in addition to facilitating community conversations about accessibility and inclusion, a professional development workshop for educators on supportive practices, and a day of performing arts events.

The first of these events is a community conversation at 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 24 at the Northfield Arts Guild Center for the Arts (304 Division St.). In conjunction with St. Olaf’s Academic Support Center/Disability and Access Officer, the Northfield Arts Guild will screen the documentary film, FIXED: The Science/Fiction of Human Enhancement, produced and directed by Regan Pretlow Brashear. The film lasts approximately 50 minutes and will be followed by a discussion facilitated by Dr. Tammy Berberi, Associate Professor of French with an emphasis in disability studies at the University of Minnesota, Morris.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
