Jim Hagerdon Vs. Feehan: MN 1st House District Election Results

Live results: Minnesota's First is one of the few rural districts that Democrats have a chance at flipping their direction this year.

MANKATO, MN — In perhaps the most tightly-contested race in Minnesota this year, Republican incumbent Rep. Jim Hagedorn is trying to hold onto his seat for another term. Hagedorn won the open election in 2018 after Democrat Tim Walz vacated to seat to run for governor of Minnesota.

Tuesday's election is a rematch between Hagedorn and second-time Democratic challenger Dan Feehan. Feehan lost to Hagedorn by less than a half a percentage point.

The final tally was Hagedorn's 146,200 votes to Feehan's 144,885, separating the candidates by just 1,315 votes.

  • Republican Jim Hagedorn: 156,463 votes
  • Democrat Dan Feehan: 147,197 votes

Note: It's unclear exactly when the unofficial vote count will be complete in Minnesota. "When citizens see that on election night we don't have 100 percent of the results in, it is literally by design. This is the plan," Secretary of State Steve Simon said in an online news conference in October.

"It's not evidence that anyone is hiding or concealing or rigging or stealing. It's evidence of the actual plan." So if all of the state's races aren't called by the end of the night, do not be alarmed or surprised.

Minnesota's First is one of the few rural districts that Democrats has a chance at flipping their direction this year. The Cook Political report currently says the race is a "toss-up."

Hagedorn is hoping President Donald Trump's endorsement will get him over the finish line. He's also accused Feehan of being a "radical liberal, endorsed by Ilhan Omar," he said in a Facebook post. "Meanwhile, the President and I will keep working together to Make America Great Again."

Feehan says on his website that Hagedorn "continues to accept money from corporate PACs, including East Coast pharmaceutical companies and out-of-state oil companies. By contrast, I have taken a simple pledge, I will take $0 from corporate PACs — period. No exceptions."

On the environment, Feehan says "it is unconscionable that Jim Hagedorn proudly denies the existence of climate change and refuses to act on it."
