Making Balloon Animals, Ice Skating & Arts Meeting: This Week in Northfield

Things you should know this week.

Yet another Monday has rolled around and Northfield Patch has what you need to know for the impending week:

Magic at the library

Magician Tim Freeland will be performing at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Northfield Public Library, 210 Washington St. The event is free and organizers recommend arriving early to get a seat.

Northfield Arts and Culture Commission meeting

The commission will meet from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Monday in the library meeting room.

Special skating times this week 

The Northfield Arena, 1280 Bollenbacher Dr., will allow open skating for all ages from 10-11:30 a.m. Wednesday and 5:30-6:45 p.m. Saturday. Typically, public skating is not available during these times. 

Skates are required when on the ice, and shoes are not permitted on the ice at anytime for any reason. Helmets are also recommended. Admission is $2.50 and skate rental is $3.

Kids can learn how to make balloon animals

The library is hosting two sessions titled "Inflation 101: The Art of Making Balloon Animals" Friday. The first session runs from 10-11:30 a.m. and the second from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Here is your chance to learn how to make cool BALLOON ANIMALS! Join professional Ballooners from "A TOUCH OF MAGIC" Session 1 for kids in grades 1 to 3. Space is limited to 25 kids. Sign up REQUIRED for the Balloon Animal workshops! Sign up at the children’s desk or call 507-645-1804 or email Kathy.Ness@ci.northfield.mn.us by Oct. 16th. This program is made possible by SELCO/SELS & Minnesota Clean Water Land and Legacy Amendment. The presenters will enforce the grade limitations! All supplies are provided.
