Minnesota Weather: Snow Could Miss Twin Cities, Slam Southern MN

TWIN CITIES, MN — The Twin Cities metro area will be mostly spared by the incoming snowstorm this weekend, according to the latest forecast. However, the storm is expected to slam counties in southern Minnesota.

"Rain will change to snow late tonight and Saturday morning, with snowfall rates of 1-2” per hour possible over southern Minnesota," says the National Weather Service.

A winter storm watch is in effect for the following counties: Le Sueur, Rice, Goodhue, Blue Earth, Waseca, Steele, Martin, Faribault, and Freeborn. Heavy snow is possible in these counties, with total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches possible. Winds could reach as high as 35 mph.

Tonight: A 10 percent chance of rain after 5 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. North northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming east after midnight.

Saturday: Rain and snow, becoming all rain after 11 a.m., then gradually ending. High near 44. East wind around 10 mph becoming north northeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 31. North wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable in the evening.

Sunday: Increasing clouds, with a high near 50. South southeast wind 5 to 10 mph.

Sunday Night: Rain likely, mainly after 1 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 37. Southeast wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Monday: A 20 percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 52. South southeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west in the afternoon.

Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 54. Northeast wind around 5 mph.

Tuesday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 39. East wind 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 52. East wind around 10 mph.

Wednesday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 40. East southeast wind around 10 mph.

Thursday: A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 55. East southeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south southwest in the morning.
