ROCHESTER, MN — Motorists using Highway 52 from the Iowa border to just south of Interstate 90 will see a speed limit increase from 55 mph to 60 mph this week as crews post the new signs, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The new speed limits become official once the new signs are in place. MnDOT crews posted the signs Tuesday, Nov. 5.

The work on Highway 52 runs from the Iowa border in Fillmore County north to Marion, which is just south of I-90 about 6 miles southeast of Rochester. Other portions of Highway 52 are four-lane and subject to other speed limits.

The speed limit study and changes have been occurring since 2014 when the Minnesota Legislature directed MnDOT to evaluate its two-lane, two-way 55 mph highways to determine whether speed limits could be increased reasonably and safely.

A final report was submitted to the Minnesota Legislature in January 2019.
