Northfield Area Climate Summit is Saturday; Registration Required

Looking for something to do in or near Northfield this weekend? Patch has a few suggestions.
Northfield Area Climate Summit
When: 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18.
Where: St. Olaf College's Buntrock Commons, 1520 St. Olaf Ave. in Northfield.
Details: The Northfield Area Climate Summit will feature meteorologist Paul Douglas as the keynote speaker, according to a press release. His speech entitled “Climate Change: Natural Cycle or Troubling Trend?” will be followed by a panel discussion and breakout sessions led by nationally recognized scientists, as well as business and environmental leaders from the state and region. Snowshoe Saturday
When: 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18.
Where: River Bend Nature Center, 1000 Rustad Ave. in Faribault.
Details: Stop in for half-price deals on snowshoeing. The cost is $5 per person and free for members. Dress for the weather and wear warm winter boots. Basic instruction provided. Snowshoe Saturday will be postponed if there is not enough snow, stay tuned River Bend's website or Facebook page for updates.
Family Open Gym
When: 1-3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19. (Feb. 16, March 16 and April 6)
Where: Northfield Area YMCA, 519 Division St. S. in Northfield.
Details: Exercise the sillies out of your kids, all while having fun as a family. Cost is $10 per family for members and $15 per family for non-members. Register online at northfieldymca.org, or complete a registration form and mail to 519 Division St. Northfield, MN 55057. You can also stop by or call the office 507-645-0088 or Wellness Center 507-664-7349.
Northfield Just For Kix Winter Show
When: 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19.
Where: Northfield High School, 1400 Division St. S. in Northfield.
Details: The Northfield Just For Kix program is made up of 100 Pre-12th grade dancers and runs September-May. The winter dance performance admission cost is $3 for children and $6 for adults.
Guest Speaker Paul Krause at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Northfield
When: 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 19.
Where: Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Northfield, 113 S. Linden St. in Northfield.
Details: Many people believe Martin Luther King Jr. came as a prophet to help troubled people through the dark times and find the answers they seek. Mr. Krause will share a short film he made with a series of songs he wrote. He'll provide commentary and answer questions. Child care and classes available. Social hour follows the service.
