Registration open for EMS classes

Open House on Jan. 7 showcases Spring 2016 courses

Registration is open for the Spring 2016 term for EMS Education Courses available through the Emergency Medical Services division of Northfield Hospital & Clinics.

Classes are designed for persons wishing to become certified first responders and/or emergency medical technicians.

The EMS Education staff will host an Open House for prospective students to learn more about the classes, see and handle equipment that is used in classes, and get a feel for the rigors of the coursework.

Individuals also can register for classes during the Open House. Courses begin in February.

Thursday, Jan. 7

7:00 – 9:00 pm

Northfield EMS Station, 1600 Riverview Lane

This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Registration is preferred; contact Julia Smith, RN, EMT at (507) 646-6551 or smithj@northfieldhospital.org.

Courses include:

EMT Refresher – satisfies National and Minnesota 24-hour EMT refresher requirements with required psychomotor examination. Feb. 12, 13 and 14 with required Psychomotor Exam on Feb. 21

EMR Initial Course (EMT Part 1 of 2) – completion results in Minnesota EMR certified and eligibility to sit for the national certification test. (Class formerly titled First Responder.)

Tuesday and Thursday evenings with occasional Saturdays (3): Feb. 16 – April 10

EMT Completion Course (EMT Part 2 of 2) – bridge your EMR/First Responder certification to EMT. Current EMRs/First Responders can take this hands-on course to complete their EMT certified. Completion will result in eligibility to sit for National certification and subsequent Minnesota certification.

Monday and Wednesday evenings with occasional Saturdays (5): Feb. 15 – May 15

Registration is required for all classes. No walk-ins will be allowed. Course size is limited. Registrations are handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Agencies can be invoiced. A waiting list will be established.

CPR Initial and Refresher Courses also are offered. Customized training programs for civic groups, businesses, churches, and schools can be provided. For information, contact Julia Smith at (507) 646-6551 or smithj@northfieldhospital.org.
