Rice County considers not funding Prairies Edge Humane Society
Rice County Board of Commissioners considers not continuing Annual Funding for Prairie's Edge Humane society

Prairie's Edge Humane Society has been operating in Rice County since 1985. We moved to Northfield in 2014. We take in, care for and rehome 450-500 Animals per year. We are financed by grants, donors, and adoption fees. Each year we request $5000 in outside agency funding from Rice County. This is about 3% of our budget; however we count on it to subsidize our mission. Suddenly the commissioners have decided that we are not essential and do not serve this County. People and animals we have helped disagree. The commissioners appear to be operating with inaccurate information. Without our services many animals would be homeless each year and at risk to die a frightening and unneccesary death. Please contact your Rice County Commisioners and tell them that we are important and essential; nobody else does what we do. Contact information for these elected representatives is on our website and facebook page. Please urge them to continue our funding; let them know how you want your tax dollars spent.
Thank you. Kathy Jasnoch, Director
