To the Editor:
At the direction of the Mayor and the City Council, the city of Plymouth currently has no Human Rights Committee activity. At the July 9, 2013 City Council meeting, the Mayor stated, discussion regarding the future of the Human Rights Committee was deferred as the City Council is working on the budget.  I see no reason that Human Rights questions and concerns should be silenced because of budget issues. At the moment, the Human Rights Committee, once Commission, is either somewhere or no where. It seems to me the City Council has tossed the Human Rights Committee in the junk drawer.  As a resident, I believe a city that recognizes that Human Rights matter is modeling that this is a community that is willing to have courageous conversations and will not look away from important issues.
