Plymouth Police Accepting Comments On Updated Unmanned Aerial Systems Policy

Due to recent changes in state law, the Plymouth Police Department has updated the policy for its use of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), which includes storage, retrieval and dissemination of all images and data captured by Plymouth Police Department UAS.

Public comment will be accepted on the updated policy and must be received by noon Friday, Nov. 27. A presentation and public hearing will be held regarding the policy at a City Council meeting 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8.

Plymouth Police has operated its UAS program since June 2019, with six Federal Aviation Administration-licensed pilots. The program has been used across Plymouth and Hennepin County to assist in locating missing persons, documenting crime scenes and helping prevent the loss of life.
