Audi Traveled 100 MPH Before Head-On Collision in Roseville: Police

The Audi hit the Ford with such force, the Ford was literally pushed back to the intersection it had just cleared.

An Oakdale man drove off a Highway 36 embankment and sped 100 mph through busy traffic in Roseville before colliding with another vehicle head-on Friday, according to police. Both drivers suffered severe injuries in the crash.

The Roseville Police Department and Minnesota State Patrol are investigating the two-vehicle head-on collision that occurred near the intersection of Fairview and Roselawn Avenues at 12:04 p.m. Friday.

According to witnesses, a silver 2008 Audi A6 suddenly left the roadway while traveling eastbound on Highway 36 as it approached Fairview Avenue. The Audi traveled down a steep embankment and crashed through a chain link fence onto southbound Fairview Avenue. Once on Fairview, the Audi struck the concrete divider that divides the north and southbound lanes. The Audi accelerated south on Fairview Avenue at over 100 mph passing other lunchtime commuter traffic, according to a news release.

As the speeding Audi approached Roselawn Avenue, it passed a line of vehicles waiting for their turn to pass through the 4-way stop sign controlled intersection.

Physical evidence found at the scene indicates the Audi struck a northbound black 2016 Ford Escape head-on about 300 feet north of Roselawn Avenue, according to police. The Audi impacted the Ford with such force, the Ford was literally pushed back to the intersection it had just cleared.

St. Anthony Police Officers were the first on the scene and provided aid to both drivers.

Both drivers suffered substantial bodily injuries and were transported by ambulance to the Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment.

The driver of the Audi has been identified as a 49-year-old male from Oakdale. The driver of the Ford has been identified as a 63-year-old male from Saint Paul.

Because of the severe bodily injuries from the crash, Minnesota State Patrol has agreed to assist with the investigation.
