Business Update: The New Look Subway

Sandwich shop on Lexington Avenue spreads its wings in a new space just down the street.

It's only moved three doors down from its previous location.

But Subway's new quarters in the Lexingxton Plaza shopping center seem miles removed from its old digs.

The popular sandwich shop's new quarters at 1740 Lexington Ave. are double its previous square footage and now affords customers more convenient parking, store manager Dominic Chenois told Roseville Patch this week.

"This is the new look (for Subway) with new decor," Chenois added. The store features earth-tone colors, a bigger lobby, black-backed upholstered booths as well small bar-height dining tables.

And with the new seating more spaced out, "we have more of a restaurant feel than fast-food feel," said Chenois, noting the store is the prototype of what other new shops in the chain will look like.

The new Lexington Avenue Subway store also boasts new restaurant equipment including microwave, toaster and oven. Chenois said his store moved into to its new quarters on Jan. 10.

But at least some customers didn't realize the shop had moved down the street; it's only been in the last month that business has picked up again, he said.

Lexington Plaza is located near the intersection of Lexington and Larpenteur avenues, one of Roseville's prime retail districts.
