Here's The Skinny on Fatony's Restaurant

New short-order grill opens at the County Road D Marathon gasoline station.

Among Roseville's new businesses this year is Fatony's, a short-order grill at the Marathon Gas station, 2216 County Road D.

The take-out/sitdown restaurant features everything from burgers and fries to gyros sandwiches and chicken wings.

"Everything is fresh and made to order," said Amro "A.J." Fayez, who is co-owner with his long-time friend Laith "Tony" Battah. "We don't micro-wave anything.

"Cooking is my passion" Fayez said, explaining that he grew up in a restaurant family (his father owned and ran a truck stop in Wisconsin). "It's always have been a dream (of mine) to own a restaurant."

Prior to starting Fatony's, Fayez and Battah have worked together at other restaurants including a deli in Daytona Beach, Florida called MLK's Fast & Fresh ( so named because the eatery was located on Martin Luther King street, Fayez said).

The two business partners considered opening shop elsewhere in the Twin Cities but picked Roseville because they liked "the business flow of the area and the people," Fayez said, adding that it took him and Battah about $12,000 to $13,000 to launch the restaurant.

So far, the restaurant is off to a good start, Fayez said. Among the restaurant's popular offerings, is a $6 special that includes a burger or sandwich, fries and a small fountain drink.
